The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

During spring of my senior year at Penn State, I went to Strasbourg on the Study Abroad Program. This spring (2009), I went back to the city for the first time, joined by Saralee (Orton) Tiede, who had been there at the same time. We enjoyed exploring the magnificent cathedral again and revisiting the city's old section--La Petite France--as well as seeing the storks' nests at the city park, L'Orangerie...In the intervening years since graduation, I've worked for United Press International in Chicago, the Baltimore Evening Sun (with David Runkel, another former Daily Collegian staff member), the Newhouse newspapers' Washington bureau, and the Los Angeles Times, where I was an editorial writer until I left to write books and freelance. You can find my books, including a biography of civil rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer, listed on my website, www.kaymills.com. The Internet and Dot.coms were the farthest thing from our imaginations when we graduated and now I am one. I often lament what is happening to American newspapers and I'm so glad I worked for some of them in their heyday. I'm mainly writing about higher education now, playing tennis, attending the opera and Los Angeles Philharmonic concerts, and traveling when I can.
